Introduction and Royalty Rate
LTE (Long Term Evolution) is a radio platform technology developed through 3GPP that is the next generation of mobile communications. The standard provides faster broadband data transmission that will enhance user experience and allow for more sophisticated mobile services. SAE (System Architecture Evolution), synonymous with Evolved Packet Core, or EPC, is the enhancement of Packet Switched technology to cope with the faster data rates and rapid growth in IP traffic anticipated with LTE.
Sisvel’s LTE patent pool offers manufacturers and users of LTE devices licenses under patents essential to LTE and SAE held by any of the participating patent owners, together with LTE/SAE essential patents originally filed by Nokia Corporation that Sisvel acquired in late 2011. The pool also remains open to new patent owners.
In terms of technical scope, Sisvel’s pool portfolio license offers the broadest coverage of the LTE/SAE standard specifications available through a joint licensing program, including both the Radio Access Specifications covered by 3GPP’s 36 series and other specifications of 3GPP release 8 required to implement an LTE/SAE system. More information on the relevant specifications is available in the section “LTE/SAE Specifications”.
The royalty rate under the pool’s portfolio license is 0.99 Euros per device.
